Wednesday, October 01, 2008

Did you know...

  • that 1984 was challenged for being pro-communist...in 1981!
  • both Ulysses and The Grapes of Wrath have been burned
  • Lolita was banned for being obscene (okay, we all know that)
Wanna know more about why these and other books have been challenged or banned? Go check out the "Banned and/or Challenged Books from the Radcliffe Publishing Course Top 100 Novels of the 20th Century."

In a real sense, people who have read good literature have lived more than people who cannot or will not read. It is not true that we have only one life to live; if we can read, we can live as many more lives and as many kinds of lives as we wish. ~S.I. Hayakawa

The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.
~St. Augustine

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.
~Mark Twain
